Problem Solving With Kidlin’s Law

In life, we come across many different experiences, and with these experiences come a variety of possible problems that we have to solve just to get through life. Over the years, we have collected quite the catalog of philosophical laws to help us with our struggles through life. These are mostly expressed through epigrams, concise and clever statements/ideas. Many of us take these ideas and apply them to our daily lives to help us solve the problems we may face each day.

For example, in mathematics, when we encounter a problem there are a number of formulas, rules and laws that we can follow to come to a conclusion. We humans can be as complex as a math problem ourselves. So, it is only logical that we also have laws and rules to follow for all our problems. And, let’s face it, we as humans can be quite problematic beings.

A Law of Life

If you can write a problem down clearly, then it is already half solved ~ Kidlin’s Law

This is just one of the laws that can help you with the motivation towards your goal and problem solving, all while giving you a new perspective on life.

The key word in the statement here is “clearly”. Because to do this you will need to have a somewhat understanding of the problem at hand. Once you can write it down, the problem is already half solved as you are on the right path to achieving your goal.

It is a good principle for a problem you are trying to solve. Once you can write clearly to determine what the problem is, then you will find it is much easier to solve.

As humans, our emotions can get the best of us when we get ourselves all worked up over the problems we face. When we come across a problem that we do not know how to solve, we can easily become stressed about it. However, the first step to any problem-solving strategy is identifying what the problem actually is. Again, if you can write down the problem clearly, then you are well on your way to solving the issue. Of course, simply writing the problem down is not going to solve your problem entirely, there is still work to be done and effort to be put in. But at least, at minimum, it will give you some form of strategy on how to move forward.

How to Apply Kidlin’s Law Effectively

There are various examples we can use for this philosophical, motivational epigram. Let’s begin with this article itself. When I was given the task of writing 2,000 words on Kidlin’s law I had no idea where to start. Of course, I knew I had to write about the law itself, but how was I going to stretch it out to 2,000 words? Honestly, it got a little stressful. However, I wrote down my notes and structured the article in my notebook and now typing away on my computer. So, my problem was half solved once I began writing in my notebook. It gave me a clear strategy to follow which I am applying to this very article right now. So, you see, these kinds of epigrams/laws do come in handy in the day-to-day.

Solving the Struggle of Procrastination

Kidlin’s law is also a great strategy to use to stop procrastinating. No matter what the task is that we have to do, most people have a tendency to put it off until the last minute. Even when we know the deadline is creeping up on us, we always seem to have that “I still have time” attitude. Another thing we are known for is doing everything else besides the task we have to complete within a certain timeframe. It’s not a great attitude to have as it is not very productive, and if everyone had the same attitude then nothing in this world would be done efficiently. Besides, waiting until the very last minute to attempt to accomplish anything just puts a lot more stress on the situation, which again does not help with productivity. I believe that some of us would avoid most tasks altogether if we could get away with it. But life just doesn’t work that way.

Authors especially have a difficult time with procrastination. I myself am guilty of procrastinating when I have writing to do. Authors can sit down at their desks with the intention of writing their novel, but then decide to do something else instead. This can be anything from cleaning the house to going out and grabbing a coffee or even suddenly taking on an exercise routine. They will literally do anything besides the task at hand.

Personally, I fall into the trap of “I’ll just play this game for an hour before I start.” Before I know it, it is 4 o’clock in the morning and my deadline is in a couple of hours. Or I log in to Netflix to watch “just one episode” of my favourite show. We all know that it is never just one episode once we log in to any of our available streaming platforms. However, we can use Kidlin’s law to help stop this seemingly endless loop of procrastination.

Going back to the situation of authors writing novels, we can easily apply Kidlin’s law to the way the author should consider working. Most of the time, authors know exactly what they want to write, they just don’t know how to begin. It can be quite stressful when you know what you want to do but have no idea how to make a start. After all, the start is the most important part. But authors can make the task easier by writing their main plot points and character events into a detailed outline that describes what happens throughout the course of the novel. It doesn’t need to have every single specific detail. As long as it is used as a type of map to where the story is going. If an author has that, then they can add extra details along the way. This is similar to the notes that I mentioned before. Once you have the basics written down, it all falls into place once you begin your task and you will soon reach your goal.

Setting a Structure

Another thing I am guilty of, which many of us are, is my lack of exercise routine. We all say we will “start on Monday”. Then Monday comes and we find an excuse to remain on our rear ends and continue being our typical lazy selves. One thing to try, according to Kidlin’s law, is to write down your goal. Better yet, write down a strict exercise routine. Once you have a plan written down, it will be easier to follow and perhaps give you the motivation you need to focus on achieving your weight loss goals.

The same can be applied to your financial goals. When looking at your finances, it may become clear that there needs to be a little less spending and a little more saving. But, how do you decide what needs to be cut out from your monthly expenditure? Well, according to Kidlin’s law, write it down clearly. If you have all your spending written down in one place, that is half the battle of trying to find ways to save. You can see what you are spending the most money on and consider whether you really need it, or if it is just burning a hole in your pocket and wasting your hard-earned money.

It can also apply to tasks that need to be done around the house. If you go around your home and write down everything that needs to be done, it can become a lot easier to manage your time by checking everything off the list and being as productive as you can be.

The Big Decisions in Life

Kidlin’s law can also be used to make big decisions. For example, you are a manager of a company that has been given the task by the boss to fire someone in your team. A difficult task that no decent person wants to do, but nonetheless it needs to be done. How would you decide? Well, using Kidlin’s law, write down the problem that needs to be solved. This can be in the form of writing down your employee’s pros and cons. Once it is all written down, you can look at each one to determine who has the most cons that outweigh the pros. Then your decision is made and the problem is solved.

Through these examples, we can see that there is a logic behind Kidlin’s law and that we can apply it to our everyday tasks and use that to solve our problems and get things done. Writing things down truly is half the battle of solving a problem. It is simple, yet effective and can be used in almost any situation.

The Human Way of Thinking

We can also look at our own human nature to see that, many of us, seem to have the belief that if we don’t see something, it doesn’t exist. Now, I am not talking about any stance on religion or the belief in aliens or anything like that. I’m referring to the idea that some people don’t know a problem exists until it is in front of them. The phrase, “out of sight, out of mind” can be relevant here. For some, they need to write down a problem to give it physical relevance. Once the problem is in some kind of physical form, it is in front of them and it won’t go away on its own. Then when the problem is written down clearly, that would mean that there is an understanding of the problem at hand. If you can understand a problem, then it may not be as difficult to find a solution as you may think.

How Useful is Kidlin’s Law?

Everyone can find this epigram useful in their lives. It can help students better understand the basis of their essays, it can be a useful tool for authors, help with difficult decisions and even help people be more productive with some form of structure in their day-to-day lives. This is why Kidlin’s law is one of the top 6 philosophies for a better life. It is a tool to help you get on track with all the problems life may throw at us. At the very least, it has helped me write this article. If I hadn’t written my basic notes, I would still be sat staring at a blank document page and stressing about where and how to begin. Evidently, I got the article written and it all began with a couple of handwritten notes.

Life is about experiences, we learn as we go. It is inevitable that we are going to make mistakes since humans in general are far from perfect, though some may believe otherwise. We can complain and cry about those mistakes or we can learn from those mistakes and better educate ourselves to avoid them happening again in the future. Rather you intend to or not, it is unavoidable that you will live by the top laws about life. Kidlin’s law is just the tip of the iceberg when it comes to the laws about life. But now it is all written down, we have a better understanding of it.
